“How are they any better than a pimp?” said Saban of agents who break rules. “How would you feel if they did that to your child?”

Reports surfaced Tuesday that Alabama is investigating defensive lineman Marcell Dareus and his potential involvement with a party in Miami’s South Beach run by a sports agent. Former Florida offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey is being investigated after ESPN reported that he allegedly took $100,000 from the representative of an agent in December.

South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders is also the subject of an investigation.

Saban and SEC Commissioner Mike Slive each have ideas for helping correct the sports-agent mess. Slive recommends the NCAA involve more former players, coaches and compliance directors — those who understand the way tampering might work — in the evaluation process.

Saban says agents who break rules should have their pay cut. After all, cutting Saban’s $4-million-per-year salary would be “straightening me out from whatever I was doing,” Saban said.

“I’m for doing something,” Saban said. “I don’t think the system as it is right now is very good …It’s something that’s affecting college football in a negative way.”
