James, a former sports agent, is the faculty adviser for the club that formed this semester to help students in the Sports Management program at NCC learn about the sports entertainment industry outside of a classroom. About 30 students are enrolled in the Sports Management program at NCC in Monroe County and 12 of those students took an active role in the club this semester, James said.

“A few students said to me ‘We have this sports management program but we want to be involved here on campus too,'” James said.

The sports management club is hoping to expand what few intramural sports the Monroe Campus has now.

The club organized a 3-on-3 basketball tournament that started on Tuesday at the NCC campus in Tannersville for club members to get the hang of viewing sports more than just a game. Four teams faced off on Tuesday and about 10 more play on Saturday.

“It takes a lot more than just being a sports fan,” James said. “They need to know about the business, ticket sales, promotion and other aspects.”
